New! How to use Sketch Designs to Create Beautiful Cards

So what is a sketch design?

That’s a great question and one I am sure many of you may have. Well just as the name implies, a sketch design is a layout for designing cards. It will often show how to put different elements together to create a truly unique handmade cards. I’ve seen many different layouts over the years and love how they can spark creativity and help you with your cardmaking.

Sometimes the sketch designs are just pictures of a potential layout without any dimensions given, leaving the cardmaker to decide how best to cut the layers. Other times, the sketches include the measurements for each layer to make it easy to recreate the design shown. Both ways are equally helpful and which one you like best is really just personal preference.

How do I use them?

Another really great question! Did you know when you sign up for my email list I’ll send you my FREE Sketch Designs E-book which contains six different designs with measurements in both imperial and metric? You can sign up here to join my email list and get your copy of my E-book. In fact it was a new subscriber who gave me the idea to do a video on how to use sketch designs.

This subscriber said she liked the idea of the E-book but did better when she could see a card made with the design layout. It was easier for her to visualize how to recreate the design based on an actual card. As soon as she mentioned that it was like a light bulb went off and I knew what I had to do!

Let’s get crafting!

So with the the recent email exchange rolling around in my mind I knew I had to do a live demonstration on how to use sketch designs for card making! First thing I need to do was to pick a design to work with. I decided to go with an old favorite – check it out below.

What I love about this design it the simpilicy of the layout and how with just a few small tweaks you can totally change the look of the card. Here are four cards I made using this design. The first one is exactly like the sketch – the other three are all variations on the design. What do you think?
