4 Creative Ways to Use the Shape Shift Template

Unique Designs with Shape Shift

Have you ever noticed that some card layouts seem to pop up everywhere? One of my favorites features layered circles that are cut in half and arranged to create a flowing design across the front of a card. It’s simple, elegant, and easy to customize.

But while I was working with this layout, I started wondering…

What if we didn’t use circles?

That simple question turned into today’s project and my new Shape Shift Template.

The Original Inspiration

For today’s card, I stayed true to the original concept by using three circles in varying sizes. Each circle is cut in half, then layered so both sides are assembled exactly the same way. That’s the key to creating the smooth, flowing design that makes this template work.

Although the finished card looks like it required a lot of planning, it’s actually built from a few simple shapes layered together. Once you understand the concept, you’ll find yourself reaching for this template again and again.

One Template, Endless Possibilities

Here’s where things got really fun.

Instead of stopping with the traditional circle design, I decided to experiment with other geometric shapes to see if the same layout would still work.

The answer?

Absolutely!

Squares create a clean, modern look with crisp lines.

Rectangles give the design a completely different feel while still maintaining the same flowing movement across the card front.

Triangles add a bold, geometric twist that’s perfect when you’re looking for something a little different.

The beauty of this template isn’t the circles. It’s the design principle behind it.

That’s one of my favorite things about paper crafting. Sometimes the smallest change opens the door to dozens of new ideas.

Make It Your Own

Don’t feel like you have to copy my samples exactly.

Mix designer series paper with cardstock. Add embossing for texture. Try metallic foil, patterned paper, or even stitched dies. Change the colors to match the season or the recipient. Every little adjustment gives the template a fresh personality while keeping the basic layout intact.

That’s exactly what I hope you’ll take away from today’s project—not just one card idea, but a template you can adapt for years to come.
