If you love a good go-to layout that you can use again and again, this design is for you.
Today I’m sharing what I call my Double Stack Template—and it’s exactly what it sounds like. You’re taking two layers that are the same size and stacking them at a slight angle to create visual interest. Add a simple strip across the front and a focal point, and you’ve got a clean, versatile card design that works every time.
This is one of those layouts that, once you learn it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it over and over again.

Why the Double Stack Template Works
What I love most about the Double Stack layout is how adaptable it is.
You can keep it clean and simple with neutral tones and a small pop of color, or you can go bold with bright Designer Series Paper and layered embellishments. The structure stays the same—the look can completely change depending on what you use.
This is also a great design for using up paper from your stash. You don’t need anything specific to make this work. Just grab a couple of coordinating pieces and start layering.
Card Samples and Variations
In the samples I shared, you’ll see a few different ways to use this template:
- A classic black and white card with a soft pop of color to draw the eye
- A monochromatic version that lets the focal point really stand out
- A textured design using embossing for added interest
- A more detailed version with die cuts and layered elements
- A variation that changes the focal point completely while keeping the same basic structure
- This version wasn’t included on the inspiration sheet, but it’s a great example of how you can adapt the layout for different occasions.
Each one starts with the same layout, but the end result feels completely different.
That’s the beauty of working with templates like this. You’re not reinventing the wheel every time—you’re just changing up the details.
Make It Your Own
Once you’ve got the basic layout down, don’t be afraid to experiment.
Try swapping out the focal shape. Use circles, rectangles, dies, or even fussy cut images. Change the width of your strip. Add texture with embossing or keep it flat and simple. Pull colors directly from your Designer Series Paper to keep everything cohesive.
There’s no one “right” way to use the Double Stack template, and that’s what makes it so useful.
