Meaningful Holiday Magic
A DIY Advent Activity Book to Inspire Connection All Season Long**
Every year December shows up like a freight train — full of expectations, chaos, and a whole lot of “where did the time go?” And every year we promise we’re going to slow down, be more intentional, and actually make memories instead of sprinting through the month.
Let’s be honest: most of us don’t keep that promise.
So this year, we’re doing something different.
Something simple.
Something sweet, thoughtful, and overflowing with holiday magic.
We’re making a handmade Advent Activity Book — a charming little booklet filled with 24 pockets, each holding a meaningful, low-cost activity designed to help you reclaim December one memory at a time.
And yes… there’s paper.
There’s glue.
There’s gorgeous Designer Series Paper.
So you know it’s right up my alley.
Before we dive in, here’s the full step-by-step video tutorial if you’d rather watch the magic unfold in real time:

Why This Advent Activity Book Has REAL Holiday Magic
This project is so much more than a cute craft (though let’s be honest, it is adorable).
It’s a way to sprinkle intentional magic into every day of December without adding pressure or extra cost. Inside you’ll tuck 24 meaningful ideas — things like:
- Take a nighttime drive to see Christmas lights
- Bake cookies together
- Do a tech-free evening with candles and soft music
- Host a simple game night
- Make handmade tags using leftover scraps
- Enjoy a quiet moment of reflection
Nothing expensive.
Nothing complicated.
Everything heartfelt.
And because everyone celebrates differently, I created three full sets of Advent Activity Lists:
- Families
- Couples
- Singles / Friends Groups
You choose the version that fits the person you’re gifting it to — or mix and match. This little book works for literally everyone from nieces and nephews to neighbors, grown kids, coworkers, and your own household.
This is the kind of handmade gift that delivers actual holiday magic — not clutter, not sugar highs, not pressure. Just connection.
What You’ll Need to Create the Magic
The full measurements are in the video, but here’s your quick list:
- Two pieces of Designer Series Paper (7¼” x 7¼”)
- Two chipboard squares (6″ x 6″)
- A 6″ x 12″ piece of Basic White cardstock
- Three strips of DSP (1¼” x 12″) for the pocket panels
- Ribbon for the closure
- Adhesive (Tear & Tape, liquid glue, Stampin’ Seal — whatever you like)
- Circle punch or small circle dies
- A die-cut label for the front sentiment
- Optional: envelope punch board to make a matching envelope
This project looks fancy — but trust me, it goes together quickly once your pieces are prepped.

How the Advent Book Comes Together
Start by scoring your Basic White piece to form the inside panel. This creates the backer for all 24 pockets.
Next, score your DSP strips every 1½ inches. These become your accordion-fold pocket rows. A little glue along the folds creates individual pockets — eight to a strip.
Repeat three times and voilà: 24 pockets ready to be filled with meaningful moments.
The cover is simply chipboard wrapped in DSP, with ribbon sandwiched between the layers to create a sweet booklet tie.
Finish it off with your favorite holiday sentiment (I used “Merry Christmas”) and any greenery or embellishments you want to add.
By the time you’re done, you’ve created something that feels special. Something full of holiday magic in the simplest, purest form.
