Light and Wonder: 3 Stunning Aurora-Inspired Cards to Love

Meet the Dynamic Duo — Light & Wonder

When the Light and Wonder Bundle meets the Lights of Aurora Designer Series Paper, magic happens. This dynamic duo from Stampin’ Up! brings the breathtaking beauty of the northern lights right to your craft table. Between the radiant colors, the layered dies, and the shimmering ribbons, you’ll find endless ways to create cards that glow with warmth and wonder.

In this week’s tutorial, I created three cards using the Light and Wonder Bundle. Each one builds on the last — starting simple, then stepping up the techniques.

Before we dive into the details, you can watch the full tutorial below and follow along as I create each card live.

This suite includes the Light and Wonder Stamp Set and coordinating dies — featuring evergreens, clouds, and layered mountain pieces that help you build full scenic landscapes. The Lights of Aurora Designer Series Paper (DSP) is the real showstopper, with colors like Azure Afternoon, Balmy Blue, Berry Burst, Blackberry Bliss, Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, Lost Lagoon, Petunia Pop, and Party.

If this dreamy paper is calling your name, don’t resist.

Card 1: “Filled with Wonder” — Simple Stamping for Beginners

Measurements:

  • Thick Basic White Card Base – 8½” × 5½”, scored at 4¼” (21 cm x 14.8 cm scored at10.5cm)
  • Highland Heather Layer – 3¼” × 3¼” (8.3 × 8.3 cm)
  • DSP Square 3″ × 3″ (7.6 × 7.6 cm)

This first card proves that simple can still be stunning. I used one 6″×6″ sheet of DSP, cut it into four squares, and mounted the square piece onto coordinating cardstock for a cohesive flow. The DSP does the heavy lifting — all you need is a sentiment and a few Frosted Iridescent Dots for sparkle.

Quick tip: always use odd numbers of embellishments for the most balanced look.

Card 2: “A Year of Magic” — Heat Embossed Elegance

Measurements:

  • Blackberry Bliss Card Base – 8½” × 5½”, scored at 4¼” (21 cm x 14.8 cm , scored at 10.5 cm)
  • DSP Layer – 5¼” x 4 (14.3 cm x 10 cm)
  • Inside Basic White – 5¼” x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm)

For our second card, we’re taking it up a notch with heat embossing. Using VersaMark ink, I stamped “Wishing You a Year of Magic” directly on the DSP, added white embossing powder, and heat set it until the letters shimmered.

To finish the look, I wrapped the Balmy Blue Sheer Ribbon across the card and tied a delicate bow using my “upside-down” trick — tie it so the tails face you, and they’ll end up falling perfectly downward when finished.

Inside, I stamped Happy Birthday from the With You in Mind set in matching Blackberry Bliss.

Card 3: “Thank You” Fun Fold — A Scenic Panorama

Measurements:

  • Gorgeous Grape Card Base – 8½” × 5½”, scored at 1½” and 4¼” (21 cm x 14.8 cm, scored at 3.8 cm and 10.5 cm)
  • DSP Panels 5½” x 2¾”, 5½” x 1¼” & 5½” x 2″ (14.8 cm x 7 cm, 14.8 cm x 3.2 cm, & 14.8 cm x 5.1 cm)
  • Basic White Insert – 5½” x 2″ (14.8 cm x 5.1)
  • Gorgeous Grape Embossed Strip – 5½” x 1″ (14.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
  • Basic Black – scrap for the die cut

Now for my favorite — a fun fold that lets the DSP shine! When opened, this design reveals a panoramic scene that spans the full 6″ sheet. It’s the perfect layout for scenic papers like Lights of Aurora.

To assemble, I added die-cut black trees for contrast and embossed a narrow strip of Gorgeous Grape with the Soft Waves Embossing Folder for movement. The sentiment “Thank You” was punched with the Triple Label Punch (available November 4), then accented with a simple knot of Balmy Blue ribbon.

Behind the Scenes: Crafty Chaos and Paper Hugs

I’ll admit it — when I’m filming, my desk looks like a Jenga tower waiting to collapse. I drop stamps, lose tweezers, and occasionally fight off barking dogs. But that’s real life in the craft room, and it’s all part of the fun.
