✨ Technique 1: Emboss vs. Deboss – Two Looks, One Folder
One of the best things about a 3D embossing folder is the ability to use both the embossed side (raised image) and the debossed side (sunken image). The sunflower folder makes it extra fun since you can position your cardstock to highlight your favorite flower.
👉 Pro Tip: Play with placement before running your cardstock through the machine. Each panel will look unique depending on how you line it up.
With just plain white cardstock, I created two simple cards: one using the embossed side and one using the debossed side. Same design, completely different feel.

📏 Measurements (Imperial & Metric)
- Secret Sea cardstock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ (21 cm x 14.8 cm scored at 10.5 cm)
- Basic White – 2 pieces at 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm) – one for the inside and one to emboss/deboss for the front o the card
🎨 Technique 2: Direct-to-Paper Inking for Bold Backgrounds
Want to add instant color and depth? Try dragging your ink pad directly across your embossed panel. It’s messy fun, but the results are worth it!
- On the embossed side, the ink clings to the raised sunflower petals for a bold, textured look.
- On the debossed side, the ink highlights the background, leaving the sunflowers lighter for a softer, inverted effect.
I created fall-inspired Thanksgiving cards using warm tones—perfect for seasonal crafting. No two panels turned out exactly the same, which is part of the charm.

📏 Measurements (Imperial & Metric)
- Darling Duckling cardstock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ (21 cm x 14.8 cm scored at 10.5 cm)
- Darling Duckling 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm)
- Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm) for the inside plus a scrap for the sentiment label
🪵 Technique 3: Distressing Two-Tone Cardstock
For my final technique, I used two-tone cardstock with a white core. After embossing, I sanded the raised areas lightly with a fine-grit sanding block. This distressed technique reveals the white core, adding instant contrast and texture.
- Sand the embossed side to highlight the raised petals.
- Sand the debossed side for a more subtle, worn effect.
Each option gives a unique, rustic style—perfect for backgrounds with vintage charm.

- Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm) for the inside
