If you’ve ever looked at a card sketch and wondered how far you could take it, today’s tutorial will show you exactly what’s possible. I’m walking you through my Off-Center Sketch and transforming it into three Christmas cards—from a quick beginner design to a stepped-up intermediate card, all the way to an avid crafter’s showpiece.
The best part? All three cards feature sneak peeks from the upcoming Stampin’ Up! September Online Exclusives and the September–December Mini Catalog. Whether you’re just starting your cardmaking journey or you’ve been crafting for years, you’ll find inspiration you can put into action right away.

The Off-Center Sketch – 3 Christmas Cards
The Off-Center Sketch is exactly what it sounds like—a focal point that’s not quite in the middle and sits just a little lower than center. This layout is incredibly versatile. Once you have the basic shapes and proportions in mind, you can adapt it for any season or occasion simply by changing papers, colors, and embellishments.

Card #1 – Beginner-Friendly Christmas Cheer

For our first card, I kept things simple:
- Real Red card base
- Silent Snowfall Specialty DSP for the background
- Sentiment from Ornamental Christmas stamp set
- Shaded Spruce & Gold Edged Ribbon
No specialty tools required—just a trimmer, adhesive, a single ink pad, and a couple of layers. This is the perfect project if you’re new to cardmaking or need to make a lot of Christmas cards in a short amount of time.
Measurements:
- Real Red cardbase 11″ x 4 1/4″ scored at 5 1/2″ (29.7 cm x 10.5 cm scored at 14.8 cm)
- Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm) for the inside and 2″ x 2 1/4″ (5 cm x 5.5 cm) for the sentiment
- Silent Snowfall Specialty DSP 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm)
- Shaded Spruce 2 1/4″ x 2 1/2″ (5.5 cm x 6 cm)
Card #2 – Stepped-Up with Blending & Glimmer

For the second card, I introduced a little more technique and texture:
- Secret Sea card base
- Ink-blended Silent Snowfall DSP with Balmy Blue ink
- Peaceful Garden Glimmer Paper accent strip
- Balmy Blue Sheer Ribbon tied in a bow
- Sentiment on a punched circle
The ink blending reveals the embossed snowflake pattern in the DSP, giving the card extra depth. A circle focal point softens the layout, and the glimmer paper adds instant sparkle.
Measurements:
- Secret Sea card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ (21 cm x 14.8 cm scored at 10.5 cm)
- Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm ) for the inside and 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ (9 cm x 9 cm) for the 2 3/8″ (6 cm) circle punch
- Silent Snowfall Specialty DSP 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm)
- Peaceful Garden Glimmer Paper 1 1/4″ x 4″ (3.5 cm x 10 cm)
Card #3 – Avid Crafter’s Snowman Delight

This is where we go all out. The third card layers multiple techniques and textures for maximum impact:
- Misty Moonlight card base with Silent Snowfall and Elegant Pine Snowflakes DSP layers
- Snowman built from All Season Velvet Specialty Paper (Real Red, Garden Green, White)
- Heat-embossed “Be Jolly” sentiment
- Shaded Spruce & Gold Edged Ribbon scarf, trimmed to scale and fringed
- Neutral Matte Dots for eyes, buttons, and nose
This one takes more time and tools, but the result is a true “wow” card that’s perfect for special recipients.
Measurements:
- Misty Moonlight card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ (21 cm x 14.8 cm scored at 10.5 cm) and 1 piece at 1 1/4″ x 4″ (3.5 cm x 10 cm)
- Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″ (14.3 cm x 10 cm ) for the inside
- Silent Snowfall Specialty DSP 3″ x 4″ (8 cm x 10 cm)
- Elegant Pine Snowflakes DSP 2 1/4″ x 4″ (6.3 cm x 10 cm)
- All Season Velvet Specialty Paper (white) – scraps for 1 3/4″ (4.4 cm) circle, 1 1/2″ (3.7 cm) circle, and 1 1/4″ (3 cm) circle)
