2 Easy Coloring Techniques for You to Try Today

How many coloring techniques do you know?

Hi Friends! Last week on my Facebook page and YouTube Channel I was talking about different coloring techniques. How many different techniques to you know and use? With so many different choices you really have endless possibilities to add color to your stamped images. Let’s take a look at a few that I highlighted last week.

When the snow rolled in last week, I had some unexpected “time off” when they cancelled Bingo at the local firehall where I volunteer. Since I my crew didn’t have to work that evening I got some extra time to play in my craft studio! Woo Hoo!

When I got to my studio I decided to work on different ways to color using our layering maskes. While the most common method would be to use blending brushes I realzied not everyone may own blending brushes so I pulled out a few different tools and got to work.

For the first method I did use our blending brushes – a great way to get color on the paper quickly and easily with little mess. Next I tried adding color with sponge daubers. While this method took a little longer I still got great color with little mess. Next I tried crinkled plastic wrap, which did not work at all. I don’t recommend plastic wrap for coloring! For my fourth and final attempt I used a sponge that I cut into smaller pieces. This worked fairly well but it did take time to get the amount of color on that I wanted, especially the lighter colors.

On Thursday I decided to continue with the coloring theme and went old school! I used our Stampin’ Write Markers with (red rubber) cling stamps and blending pens with our Classic Stampin’ Pads. Both of these techniques have been around for ages but sometimes as shiny new things are introducted (Stampin’ Blends/alcohol ink markers) these old methods fall out of favor.

So I decided I would bring them back! Honestly there is nothing special to either technique but both require a little patience and practice. For my first example, I used three Stampin’ Write Markers in three shade of purple (Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, and Gorgeous Grape) to create an ombre effect on the Happy Birthday stamp from the Go To Greeting stamp set (one of my personal favorites!). Next I used a few Classic Stampin’ Ink Pads and a blender pen to color the image from the In The Moment stamp set.
