Life got a little wild last week—Stampalooza prep has me buried in glitter and to-do lists—so the video I meant to post last Thursday is finally making its debut today. Better late than never, right?
Today I’m walking you through a quick and simple idea that’ll stretch your creativity: using one sketch to create both a handmade card and a 12″ x 12″ scrapbook layout. Whether you’re a cardmaker who’s curious about scrapbooking or a memory keeper who’s thought, “Maybe I’ll try a card,” this is your permission slip to give it a shot.
Triple Banner Sketch: A Shared Starting Point
Let’s talk about the real star of this project: the Triple Banner Sketch.

This simple sketch features three vertical banners, a sentiment strip, and a sprinkle of embellishments. That’s it. But don’t let the simplicity fool you—this design is a powerhouse of flexibility.
From Sketch to Handmade Card
First up, the card. I used Stampin’ Up!’s Painterly Pears DSP (gorgeous, by the way) to create the banners and paired it with two-tone cardstock for a sentiment layer. To add visual interest, I tore the two-tone cardstock to reveal that fabulous white core. The sentiment comes from the Sweet Jar stamp set and is stamped in Secret Sea ink (it’s my new fav!).

From Card to Scrapbook Layout: Scaling Up
Now, here’s where the magic happens. That same Triple Banner Sketch? It transitions beautifully into a scrapbook layout. All I did was double the banner widths—from 2″ on the card to 4″ on the page—and extend the lengths. I kept the sentiment strip but moved it down toward the bottom to balance the space. Then I added some photo placeholders to get the layout started.

I haven’t finalized which photos I’ll use yet, but this layout gives me a solid starting point. And yes, I’ll be creating a coordinating spread for the opposite side of the layout once I choose my photos and story. Keep an eye out on my socials for the finished version!
Crafty Tip: How to Extend a Die Cut Banner
Some of my banners were longer than my Party Banners dies—no problem! Here’s the trick:
- Align your paper in the die but keep the top edge of the paper laying over the die so it doesn’t get cut.
- Run it through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine.
- Boom! Just the bottom edge gets cut, and your banner is now however long you want.
This trick works beautifully with the Party Banners Dies (or any banner-style die) and gives you so much more flexibility with layout design.
Try It Yourself
So here’s my challenge to you:
🔹 If you’re a cardmaker, try translating one of your favorite layouts into a scrapbook page.
🔹 If you’re a scrapbooker, pick a layout you love and scale it down for a card.
Paper crafting is all connected—it’s just a matter of how big your canvas is.
